Make some festive treats
One of the best Christmas things to do to get you feeling festive is baking and making drinks!
Christmas shaped cookies can be incredibly fun to decorate, especially with your little ones. You could give some strawberries a dusting of snowy sugar and cream. Or, you could try building a gingerbread house which is another great Christmas thing to do. You could even cover cornflakes in white chocolate mixed with green food colouring and shape them into a tasty wreath.
There are plenty of drinks you could make too. Eggnog is a classic during the Christmas period, and there are many variations. Whether you want a traditional eggnog, a non-alcoholic one or a vegan one, there are plenty of recipes available.
You can also find many recipes for other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. Snowman smoothies and Grinch Punch would be great choices for the kids. These drinks are so delicious that even the adults will love them. Hot mulled cider could always be another option for the grown-ups.

Write a letter to Santa
Do you have little ones? Helping them write a letter to Santa can be one of the most exciting Christmas things to do. To make it extra special, there are plenty of resources online that you can use to make it more fun. Maybe buy some sheets of paper specially designed to look suitable to send off to the north pole. Or print them off yourself. Why not buy a magic Christmas key to leave outside for Santa if you don’t have a chimney? These activities will really capture the magic of Christmas.
-
Wear Christmas clothing
Whether you love or hate those ugly Christmas jumpers, they are absolutely another great way to feel festive. There are plenty of designs available too, so you can find the perfect one for you. If you or a loved one like Pokémon, for example, there are likely hundreds of designs to choose from online. These can make wearing the dreaded Christmas jumper a little more fun.
-
Watch Christmas films
Nothing beats the feeling of being snuggled up close to a fire. One of the cosiest Christmas things to do is just that! There are plenty of Christmas films you can also watch whilst cuddled up in your warmest blanket. If you’re a hopeless romantic, there are many rom coms to choose from. Or why not opt for a classic like How the Grinch stole Christmas, Elf or Home Alone. Even if you’re spooky and prefer Halloween, The Nightmare Before Christmas could be the perfect film for you.
-
Decorate the house whilst dancing to Christmas music
Dancing around the house whilst singing along to Christmas music is one of the best Christmas things to do. Belting out Mariah Carey is a one-way ticket to feeling festive. We suggest visiting garden centres and stores with a large selection of Christmas decorations. Many garden centres have displays in dark tunnels to show off all their Christmas lighting. This can be especially magical for kids, giving the feeling of wandering through Santa’s grotto! If you prefer a real Christmas tree, go out with the family and select the perfect one. Or you can buy some scented candles to really amp up the festivities.
-
Buy/wrap presents
Sometimes people can feel festive when preparing for the big day. If you like shopping, then this may be the best option of for you. Preparing all the gifts to give to your loved ones can be really exciting. Especially when wrapping them and adding the final touches!
-
Volunteer or donate
Many of us can forget those less fortunate during the Christmas period. One of the most important things to do at Christmas is donating to charity and perhaps volunteering to support your community.
Donating doesn’t always have to involve money. It could be an old coat you don’t wear or some toys your little ones no longer play with. Somewhere in the world, there will be someone who will appreciate your donations more than you know.
If you really want to get involved, there are likely plenty of community projects that need volunteers. Those willing to sacrifice their time could help out serving Christmas dinners to those without families on Christmas day.
You could use an old shoebox to put together a hamper, perhaps with some old toys and treats. A running theme with Christmas is remembering to appreciate those around you. So, it’s even more important to help and support those less fortunate, however you can.
-
Visit a Christmas market
Wandering through the cute stalls of a Christmas market can really make you feel lost in a winter wonderland. Often, Christmas markets tend to have ice rinks. Whether you’re a figure skater in the making or Bambi on ice. Skating is one of the most fun Christmas things to do.
-
Read Christmas books
There are plenty of Christmas books to read that will get you in the festive spirit. We looked into several of them in our blog and what makes them great. Whether you’re reading for yourself or to young ones, there are many that are suitable for all. We suggest reading whilst snuggled up beside a fire for optimal cosiness.
