Festive feeling: Christmas baking ideas for kids

By the end of this blog, you’ll want to make all these sweet treats. We recommend making the following:

1. Christmas cookies

One of standard sweet treats to bake at Christmas are cookies. This is a great Christmas baking idea for kids as they can be involved in the whole process. From creating the mixture, to cutting them into shapes and decorating them. Children will love the decorating part as they can use sweets, chocolate and icing to make the perfect cookie. You can buy different moulds to make the cookies look more Christmassy such as trees, angels and stars.

2. Gingerbread men

A Christmas twist on a traditional biscuit. Children loves gingerbread men, especially ones with chocolate, sprinkles and sweets on them. More sugar to make them hyper. Transform those gingerbread men into festive characters. You could decorate their heads with Santa hats or elf hats. Why not make the gingerbread baking more fun and give names to your men?

3. Stacking snowmen biscuits

There are so many unique ways to turn baking into Christmas related things. A great example of some festive treats that kids can bake are stacking snowmen biscuits. This will consist of 3 biscuits stacked on top of each other.  Starting with the largest biscuit on the bottom then smaller as the stack goes up. The biscuits should be decorated in white icing to resemble a snowman. Decorate your biscuits to give the snowman eyes, a carrot nose and a mouth.

4. Yule log

Most people look for a yule log on the dessert table at Christmas time. It’s a great Christmas baking idea for kids. They will love help making this as it involves lots of chocolate and cream. Sounds yummy to us. Be careful they don’t eat it all before its ready to serve! The yule log is fairly simple for kids to make which is why we recommend making one.

5. Snowmen doughnut sticks

We saw the recipe for these and wanted to make them ourselves. Kids love doughnuts, especially ones covered in sugar, chocolate or something sweet. We recommend making miniature doughnut balls stacked on a stick to portray the figure of a snowman. Decorate the doughnuts in white icing and fondant to create eyes, a mouth and a nose.

6. Shortbread

Although this isn’t very Christmassy, you can decorate the biscuits, so they have a festive feeling about them.  We love the smell of freshly baked biscuits coming out of the oven. Let your children have fun decorating their biscuits in greens, reds and white to give them a Christmas feel. You could box up the shortbread and give them to family and friends as gifts.

7. Fruit mince pies

Traditional mince pies are more for adults. However, we have an idea to make them more kid friendly – fruit mince pieces.  There’s nothing quite like the smell of mince pies coming out the oven. Your kids will want to eat them straight away. Again, you could gift these to family and friends or keep them for dessert on Christmas Day.

8. Mini Santa cheesecakes

This is a fun Christmas baking idea for kids, but they look too good to eat. Cheesecakes are a simple but effective dessert to teach young children how to bake. They are quick to make and don’t make much mess. The mini-Santa cheesecakes look delicious, our mouths are drooling just looking at them. The cheesecakes are designed to look like mini-Santa hats. They will look great on your dessert table on Christmas day.

9. Christmas tree brownies

We’ve not run out of Christmas baking ideas for kids yet. We have a tasty one for you to make at home. Christmas tree brownies. Kids will love whisking the chocolatey mix in the bowl whilst having a sneaky lick of the spoon. Don’t worry kids, we all do it. Who can resist that chocolatey goodness? Cut the brownies into triangles and decorate them green to resemble a tree. To create a better effect, stick the brownies on a lolly stick so it looks like a tree trunk.

10. Elf and Santa cupcakes

We all love cupcakes, don’t we? But remember these are for the kids. Turn your ordinary vanilla or chocolate cupcakes into Christmas themed ones. Decorate the tops of your cakes to resemble elves and Santa. Be sure to photograph your kids with their masterpieces and share with family and friends. Don’t forget to leave some mixture in the bowl to enjoy whilst you’re waiting for the cakes to bake.

11. Snowman pizza

Our final Christmas baking idea for kids is pizza. We’ve talked so much about sweet goodies that we thought we’d finish on a savoury treat. I’m sure we can agree all kids seem to love pizza, which is great because so do we. This is going to be one big pizza as you will need to roll the dough into a snowman shape. Decorate your snowman with pepperoni, a carrot and olives to create buttons, a nose, eyes and a mouth. Why not have the pizza for lunch followed by one of the sweet treats mentioned above for dessert?
