Wondering what things to do with kids for Christmas? Santa Academy has some ideas!
-
Decorate the house
Decorating may be the first thing that comes to mind when considering things to do with kids for Christmas. However, it can also be one of the most magical parts of Christmas for kids. Decorating the house builds anticipation for the big day and can get kids excited. They may even enjoy decorating a mini artificial tree for their bedrooms. Another great way to make Christmas more special is to use scented candles and air fresheners around the house. Using scents for the holiday can leave a lasting memory in the minds, hearts (and noses) of your little ones.
-
Go to see some reindeer
The second suggestion we have for things to do with kids for Christmas is visiting reindeer. Many places are likely to have real reindeer for kids to visit. Whether at farms or Christmas markets and fairs. There is likely a local place that you can visit to see reindeers. Seeing these beautiful animals in person can feel truly magical for children. You can likely feed them carrots and other treats too!
-
Build a snowman
If you happen to have snow where you live at Christmas, then building a snowman is a must. Being able to create their very own Olaf could be the highlight of your little one’s Christmas! Just remind them he cannot have too many warm hugs lest he become a puddle.
-
Go to see Christmas lights
Many people enjoy decorating their houses with lights during Christmas time. Why not load up your car with the kids and some fluffy blankets. Put some Christmas tunes on, and see if you can find the most extravagantly decorated house in your area? This can be one of the most fun things to do with kids for Christmas. It reminds them what Santa sees when navigating around on Christmas eve.
-
Bake some goodies
Still looking for Christmas things to do with kids? Baking and cooking treats are fun any day, but it is especially fun when it’s Christmas! Your little ones will love creating festive themed tasty treats. We have some ideas for what you can make!
You could decorate marshmallows to look like a snowman and dunk it into a hot chocolate. If your kids love brownies and Oreos, help them decorate them to look festive! You could turn an ice cream cone upside down and decorate it with threats to look like a Christmas tree.
If you want to make something for Santa and the reindeer, you could:
- Make your own Reindeer Food using Rupert Reins’ special recipe.
- Decorate mini doughnuts and leave them for Santa’s elves.
- Follow Santa’s favourite cookie’s recipe with Peppa Pudding.
Healthier alternatives
If you would prefer some healthy alternatives, there are plenty of creative ideas that use fruit. You could cut slices of cucumber and arrange them on a kebab skewer into the shape of a Christmas tree. You could help your little one to decorate a pancake with bananas and strawberries to create Santa’s face. Or you could dip bananas into chocolate and decorate them with M&Ms to look like a penguin. Fruit and vegetables could be used to create all kinds of wonders on your kid’s dinner plates. Let their imagination run wild!
-
Visit Santa’s grotto
There may be places in your local area that hold Santa’s grotto events. These events allow kids to meet the jolly man himself. Some even have his reindeers and elves! Meeting Santa is probably a dream of most kids. Being able to take your kids to meet him will definitely keep you off the naughty list.
-
Read Christmas stories or watch Christmas films
Settling down on an evening with a hot chocolate and cosy blankets can really make you feel festive. It is by far one of the nicest Christmas things to do with kids. The kids will love being snuggled up to watch a Christmas film. Or if they prefer books, you could read one to them.
-
Christmas traditions
Some families have their own Christmas traditions. Some Christmas eve tradition ideas we love at Santa Academy are:
- New pyjamas
- Warm drinks
- Treats and snacks
- A Christmas film/book
- Baking treats.
No matter what your traditions are, your kids will likely look forward to them every year!
-
Craft ideas
One of the most creative things to do with kids for Christmas are arts and craft activities. Kids love being artistic, and we put together a list of fun craft ideas for your family to enjoy! Some other activities you may enjoy include:
- Drawing Claus Manor
- Decorating the Christmas tree with Tobias
- Wordsearches
- Scavenger hunts
- Design a Christmas jumper
You can find these activities within our Santa Academy activity packs!
-
Take Christmas photos
Capturing memories through photos and videos is one of the most special parts of Christmas. You can turn memories into mementos and gifts for your loved ones. Perhaps your parents would love a Christmas card with a photo of their grandkids wearing their Christmas jumpers. You could buy some props to make photo time more fun.
Taking photos can be fun and recreating old photos can be even more so! If your kids are slightly older, maybe it will be more fun for them to re-enact old photos from their early years.
