9 Christmas card craft ideas

There are plenty of arts and crafts ideas to keep your little ones busy. Here’s 9 Christmas card craft ideas to get you feeling festive.

1. Festive shapes

For our first Christmas card craft idea, you can create your card by folding a piece of card in half. Then, draw out the outline of the desired shape. This could be a snowman, or a Christmas tree, or any other shape you feel confident in creating! Once you are happy with your shape, you can begin decorating!

There are plenty of options depending on the shape you’ve chosen. If you went for a Christmas tree, you could use sequins, buttons, pipe cleaners, glitter or ribbons for decorations. Or, if you went for Santa’s face, use cotton wool for his beard and black buttons for eyes. And don’t forget to give him rosey cheeks!

2. Woolly snowman

Do your little ones love the feeling of soft cotton wool? If yes, then this Christmas card craft idea is perfect for them! Sketch out a rough shape of a snowman, then add glue and stick down some cotton balls. You can then use little cut outs of felt to add the features. A bright orange felt will make a great carrot nose! And if you can, why not use some twigs from the garden for your snowman’s arms?

3. Felt creations

Another great Christmas card craft idea is to use felt to create characters and shapes. Grab various colours and some scissors and get snipping! You could use a marker to draw on guidelines to help you with the shapes. You could use red, black and white to create Santa. Or white for a snowman. There’s plenty of ideas to go with! Then glue your felt creations onto card.

4. Fingerpainted

One of the most fun Christmas card craft ideas we have, and probably the messiest, is to fingerpaint! Fold a piece of card into a shape. Then dip your little one’s fingers in different coloured paints. Help them to press down on the card to leave the fingerprint shape.

There are plenty of ideas for designs too! Use brown paint to create little reindeer heads. Then use a marker to add on the antlers and a bright red nose. Or, you could add lots of fingerprints to make the shape of a Christmas tree with green paint. Then add decorations of your choice!

5. Personalised bauble

Is your little one a fan of the Grinch? This next Christmas card craft idea will leave a big smile on their faces if they are! Either print off an image of the Grinch holding a bauble or draw it if you’re feeling confident. Then print a photo of your little one and stick it inside the bauble. You don’t have to use the Grinch, of course. You could use the shape of a snow globe instead. Adding a bit of glitter to the photo will make it extra magical!

6. Quilled cards

For those with perhaps a bit more patience, quilled Christmas card craft ideas could be up your alley. Use strips of coloured card and roll them up. You can get a specific tool to help you known as a quilling needle. However, you could still roll up the card with just your fingers!

Once you’ve rolled up your paper strips, glue the end to secure the shape and stick them down onto card. There are various designs and ideas you can go for. You could use various blues to create snowflakes. Or green to create a Christmas tree. This Christmas card craft idea can be a bit fiddly, so it might be more suitable for older ones. Or, with the supervision and help of an adult. But the results are definitely worth the effort!

7. Button-baubles

For a simplistic but fun Christmas card craft idea, all you need is card, buttons and a marker. Glue different shaped and coloured buttons onto your card. Then, use your marker to draw a line from the top of the card down to the button. This makes the button-bauble appear as if it is on string. Add a little bow above the button to finish it off!

8. Pipe cleaner trees

Use a green pipe cleaner and fold it over in a zig zag shape to form a Christmas tree. Then, stick it onto some card and decorate it however you like! You could use glittery string to add tinsel. And sequins for baubles.

9. Pom pom trees

Similar to the woolly snowman Christmas card craft idea mentioned earlier. You can use green pom poms to create a Christmas tree shape on a card. Then you can decorate the tree with sequins, ribbons and more!
