Christmas arts and crafts for kids to get them into the festive spirit

  1. Painting pictures

Painting pictures is a fun and messy Christmas arts and crafts idea for kids. Grab some paints and big sheets of paper and let your little ones show off their artistic skills. You can paint different story ideas featuring Santa such as:

  • Santa climbing down the chimney
  • Santa and Mrs Claus
  • Santa in the workshop with his elves
  • Santa and his reindeer.

Whatever your little one’s paint, be sure to frame their artwork for everyone to see.

  1. Make Santa masks

This creative activity is a fun way to get your little ones looking like the big man himself. All you’ll need is some card to get started. Simply cut holes for the eyes and mouth. Use cotton wool to create Santa’s white fluffy beard. Use a red card and shape it into a hat to attach to the top of the mask. Stick some string around the mask so you can wear it. And just like that, you have a Santa face mask.

  1. Decorate Santa hats

We still have more ideas for Christmas arts and crafts for kids, including decorating Santa hats. Visit your nearest Christmas store or supermarket and purchase a Santa hat. Purchase some art supplies to use for decorating. Let your little ones having fun making creations on their hat. Perhaps they’ll use glitter to write their name or stick colourful sequins around the hat.

Take a family photo of everyone in their decorative hats. Post them on social media and ask people to vote for their favourite.

  1. Painted rocks

Take a family walk along the beach to collect some flat rocks of different sizes. Once you have enough rocks take them home to decorate. Grab some paint and turn your rocks into Santa’s. Once you’ve decorated the rocks display them in your garden to give it a festive feel.

  1. Santa paper plates

If you’ve got some paper plates lying around at the back of your cupboard, make use of them. Turn those paper plates into Santa. Add googly eyes, cotton wool for a beard and a hat to create your own Santa paper plates. Your little ones will have fun making them. It may get messy, so be sure you keep the area covered. You can make multiple Santa paper plates and hang them around the house for decoration.

  1. Santa baubles

We’ve still got more ideas for Christmas arts and crafts for children. For this next one, you’ll need some plain baubles. Grab some art supplies and turn your baubles into Santa. Once you’re done, hang the baubles on the tree for everyone to admire.

Add some glitter to your baubles for that extra sparkle to make them stand out. You could make this a family tradition.

Why not make some baubles for the family to hang on their tree? Or you could send them as a gift.

  1. Build a Santa

There are plenty of build a Santa templates available online to print off. This is a great activity for little ones as they have to stick all the pieces together to create Santa. Print multiple templates off and build an army of Santa’s.

  1. Santa wooden spoons

If you’ve got a wooden spoon lying around, turn it into something creative. Use some cotton wool, felt, googly eyes and pom poms to create a Santa wooden spoon. Why not make some other festive characters too and create a show with them? It’ll be great entertainment for the family.

  1. Christmas cards

Another Christmas art and craft idea for children is making Christmas cards. It’s a great way for them to design their own cards for family and friends.

Head down to your local craft store and see what supplies you can pick up to create your cards.

Get your little ones to draw or stick pictures of Santa onto their cards. With adult supervision, they could even cut their cards into the shape of Santa. The possibilities are endless.

  1. Newspaper Santa art

Keep any old newspapers or magazines to create this next craft idea. Simply transform old newspapers and magazines into Santa. It’s a great way to make use of something that would have just gone in the bin. Stick your design onto thick card that you can stand up. Display your multi-media creations around your home.

  1. Santa bookmarks

This craft idea will encourage your little ones to read. Let your little ones design their own Santa themed bookmarks they can use again and again. Ask your child to make some bookmarks for you too. Have fun reading together as a family.
