Christmas activity ideas and free printables

1. Christmas stocking pattern

This Christmas printable activity will help get your little ones in the festive spirit. You can easily print the picture off at home. Grab some pens, paint, and glitter and let your children decorate the stocking however they want. The more colourful the stocking, the better. You can print and decorate as many stockings as you like. Be sure to display those superb stockings around the house for everyone to see.

2. Christmas tree baubles

This free Christmas printable will keep your children entertained for hours. Find some templates of plain Christmas tree baubles and print them off. There are hundreds of different patterns available so find a variety of ones for your children to decorate. Grab some pens and pencils and let them choose the colours they’d like to use for their baubles. Hang those baubles on your tree for the whole family to see.

3. Dot-to-dots

Another great Christmas activity idea is getting the kids to do some dot-to-dot pictures. At Santa Academy, we think this is therapeutic for adults, so join in. Dot-to-dots can help kids draw and count as they connect the picture up via numbers. After they’ve completed their dot-to-dots, ask them to colour the picture in. Hang them on the fridge or in their room.

4. Word searches

Word searches are a great way to get kids reading. It helps them with problem-solving too. You can buy word search books or print some word search sheets off online. Why not find some Christmas ones? See who can find all the words first. The winner receives a special prize. Once they’ve completed the word search, test them with their spellings. Ask them to spell out words from the word search.

5. Design your own cracker

6. Colour by numbers

Download some colour by number pictures or buy some of your own. This is a great activity when it’s too cold to go outside. Grab all the pens and pencils and let your kids colour away. This activity will help them learn their colours and produce some pretty pictures. Hang up the pictures around your home to make it feel festive.

7. Printable Christmas cards

Making Christmas cards is a fun Christmas activity for kids. There are hundreds of great templates online you can print off. Ask your little ones to choose some designs and get them to colour the cards in. You could ask them to write their own messages inside. It’s a great way to help with their writing and adding a personal touch. Gift the cards to family, friends and neighbours. They’ll love displaying the cards that the children have made.

8. Anagrams

This puzzle activity will help get your children’s brains working. You can print these off or create your own for the kids to have a go at. List 10 different Christmas themed words and jumble up the words. See if your children can guess the words. If they get all 10 correct, treat them to a small present. This activity will help your children develop their problem-solving skills and spelling.

9. Storyboard

Get them to create their own Christmas themed story. Together, you can think of characters and a story. Once you’ve completed the storyboard, read it together. Be sure to give your story a name. This fun fact sheet can be downloaded and printed off. Your children can learn some interesting facts about Christmas around the world. Many countries have different Christmas traditions so have fun learning. You could turn the fact sheet into a quiz and see what you remember.

11. Painting pictures

If you’re looking for something other than Christmas printable activities, let the children create something themselves. Clear some space and grab some big sheets of paper. Get the paints out and have fun as a family painting some Christmas pictures. You could paint a Christmas tree or Santa and Mrs. Claus. Be sure to change into old clothes or wear aprons as you’re bound to get messy. Remember to hang those masterpieces up on the wall.

12. Santa stop here signs

Our final fun Christmas activity for children is creating a sign for Santa. There are plenty of templates online you can print off. If you’re feeling extra creative, design your own. Fill your signs with plenty of colour and sparkles so it stands out. Display your sign in the window. Santa needs to know where to deliver the present so make it big and colourful.
