Feeling festive: Christmas tree craft ideas

One of the best ways to keep your little ones busy is to get creative! It’s also a great way to bond with them. But trying to find different Christmas activities can be difficult. So, we have put together a collection of Christmas tree craft ideas for you to enjoy.

1. Decorating the tree activity packs

At Santa Academy, we have multiple activity packs for your kids. These include recipe making, wordsearches, maze games and craft ideas. One of our Christmas tree craft ideas is the tree decorating activity. We have different versions available for each of our factions!

Why not help your little one to draw a tree topper they think the Fairies will love? Or help them imagine how the Reindeer may decorate their tree. Hint: we suspect it would have plenty of candy canes and reindeer kibble!

2. Create your own decorations

Why not buy you and your little ones some wooden planks to decorate to create your own tree ornaments? You could draw, paint, or stick on any kind of designs. You could even write your names, or some wishes for the new year!

You could even paint old baubles to freshen them up and add a more personal touch.

Another great decoration idea could be to print off an image of a location’s map. Choose the location of somewhere you want to visit next year. Or, maybe where you would like to spend next Christmas if not at home. Then, roll the image up enough to fit into a small, clear bottle. Finally, hang it to the tree with some ribbon.

3. Lollypop trees

One of the easiest Christmas tree craft ideas we have is lollypop trees. These trees can be made by painting some lollypop sticks green then gluing them together. You can stick them together in the shape of a Christmas tree, whether 2D or 3D. Then, you can decorate your lollypop tree!

4. Christmas tree card

Want to wish a loved one a merry Christmas? There’s no better way than by a personal home-made card. Grandparents will love to see the artwork of your little ones on a Christmas card. You can cut out a Christmas tree shape and glue it onto card. Then, help your little one to decorate it with buttons and sequins. Don’t forget to add a festive message inside!

5. Stick trees

Enjoy going for walks with your kids? Next time you're out, look for various lengths of sticks for our next Christmas tree craft idea. Place the different sized sticks in order of length. They should start small and gradually get longer towards the bottom. This is to mimic the shape of a tree. Then, once you're happy with the order, use string and glue to keep them together. You could even add decorations to them before hanging them on a wall.

To make them even more personal, use strips of card or wood and write on family member names.

6. Shredded wheat wreaths

A fun Christmas tree craft idea is to create shredded wheat wreaths. You can make them by shaping shredded wheat into a ring after adding green food coloring. Once dry, add little red sequins for the berries. Then use ribbon to tie them to your tree as another variation of a personalized tree decoration.

7. Christmas tree bunting

If you don’t mind cutting out several Christmas tree shapes, then why not create Christmas tree bunting? Use green card and cut out Christmas tree shapes. Then let your little ones decorate them with paint, buttons, and sequins. Finally, attach them to some string and hang them around your house!

8. Cone trees

Using green cone hats for Christmas tree craft ideas is great! You can help your kids to add pipe cleaners and ribbons for tinsel. Then, stick on sequins, pom poms and glitter. Finally, help them choose a tree topper! This could be anything they like, or their own version of a classic star or fairy.

9. Christmas book-tree

Do you and your family love reading? Is your house littered with books? This next super easy Christmas tree craft idea is right for you. Simply take several books and arrange them into a tower shaped like a Christmas tree. You could also do this with some colored building blocks if you have some!
