Christmas drawing ideas for a rainy day

1. Draw with Jessica Claus

Our very own Jessica Claus is one of our most creative festive characters. She loves drawing and you can often find her doodling. Check out Jessica Claus’ drawing activities and put your child’s drawing skills to the test.

Grab the pencils and watch them draw Claus Manor and Santa’s Sleigh. Why not colour the pictures in and display the artwork for everyone to see?

2. Draw the characters

Here at Santa Academy, we have a range of festive characters for you to get to know. They each have their own wacky personalities and hobbies they love. Some good Christmas drawing ideas would be to draw the Santa Academy characters.

How about you pick your favorite character to draw or draw all the characters side by side? You could even create your own character. Once you’ve drawn your characters, add some color and hang up your pictures.

You could even take photos and send them to us. We’d love to see your drawings!

3. Decorate a Christmas jumper

Next on our list of Christmas drawing ideas for a rainy day is decorating a Christmas jumper. We all love a garish Christmas jumper, right? The crazier the design, the better.

4. Draw your perfect presents

We’ve still got plenty of Christmas drawing ideas to come. Instead of writing a letter to Santa this year, why not draw one?

Draw pictures of the presents you’d like to see under the Christmas tree this year instead of writing them down. It’s a good way for your little ones to get imaginative.

What will your little ones ask for? A bike, a doll’s house or maybe a trampoline.

5. Design your own baubles

Either by printing off some templates or creating your own, ask the kids to design their own baubles. Grab plenty of pens and pencils and let them get crafty, creating some crazy and unique designs. Don’t just stop at a few ideas, let your kids create as many ideas as possible.

Why not turn those ideas into the real thing? 

Grab some plain baubles and let them create their own designs. You can paint them different colors and use glitter to give the baubles that extra sparkle. Make plenty of baubles to fill up the tree.

6. Art class with Katty King

If your children love colouring in, this next activity is perfect for them. Download our Katty King colouring sheets and get colouring. Grab your pens and pencils and add some colour to the pictures of Santa. Your children can spend hours colouring in. Perfect for a rainy day. Be sure to hang those pictures up for everyone to see.

7. Draw a scene from your favorite Christmas book

Don’t worry, we haven’t run of out of Christmas drawing ideas yet. We all love a good festive book around Christmas time, don’t we? It brings out our Christmas spirit and gets us excited for the big day.

A great way of encouraging your kids to read is asking them to choose a Christmas book to read. Once they’ve read the book, ask them to draw their favorite scene from the book. Grab some pencils and color those pictures in.

Some top Christmas books your children can draw scenes from are:

• How the Grinch stole Christmas by Dr Seuss
• A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens
• The Snowman by Raymond Briggs.

What Christmas scenes will your children draw?

You could adopt the same idea with Christmas films. Perhaps they’ll draw scenes from The Polar Express or Elf.

8. Create your own Christmas cracker

Gerry Gingernut needs someone to design some Christmas crackers, can you help him out? Test your children’s creative skills as they are tasked with designing their own Christmas crackers. Gerry loves crazy colours so make your crackers and bright and vibrant as possible. What design will your children create?

9. Decorate the Christmas tree

For our next Christmas drawing idea, you’ll need to help Tobias decorate the Christmas tree. Use our template to draw and color your decorations on the tree. Tobias wants to see his tree filled with colorful decorations. You can add lights, baubles, and tinsel to the tree. The big question is, what will you put on top of the tree?

The possibilities are endless. Tobias can’t wait to see your ideas.

10. Design your stocking

A fireplace would look bare without any Christmas stockings hanging up. It’s one of the main decorations you expect to see in homes at Christmas time. Traditionally, stockings are red and white, but coming up with your own ideas is fun.

Ask your little ones to design their own stocking in whatever colors and patterns they like. Perhaps they’d like a personalized one with their name or one with a snowman on. The possibilities are endless. So have fun creating some designs.

11. Gift wrap with Douglas

How fun would it be if you could make your own wrapping paper? With this next drawing idea, you can.

Douglas Squatsbottom needs your held to design the perfect wrapping paper for all the children’s presents. He says the best wrapping paper is bright and colorful and matches the gift inside. What pattern will you create?

13. Christmas cards

Next on our list of Christmas drawing ideas is making some Christmas cards. It’s a great idea to get the kids involved in arts and crafts to bring out their creative skills.

Grab some card to get started with making your Christmas cards. Ask your little ones to draw some festive designs on the front of the cards and color them in. You could ask them to write a Christmas message inside for the recipient. This is a great way to boost their reading and writing skills.

Once you’ve made all the cards, send them to family, friends and neighbors. They’ll love receiving personalized cards the children have made. Be sure they make one for you too.

14. Draw your favorite Christmas activity

Still looking for Christmas drawing ideas for rainy days indoors? We still have more ideas to come. A great drawing activity is asking your child to draw their favorite activity. There are so many Christmas activities to enjoy over the festive period, here are some of our favorite things:

• Baking Christmas cookies
• Visiting Santa’s Grotto

• Decorating the tree
• Christmas pantomime.

15. Family Portrait

Test your child’s art skills with this next idea. Family portraits are great for hanging up on the wall or gifting to family and friends as a present. Get the whole family dressed in their festive jumpers and get your child to draw a picture of you all. You could even use this as a Christmas card idea.

If you have any pets, ask your little ones to draw a festive portrait of them too. We’re sure your pets will look cute in a Christmas hat or some reindeer antlers.

Share your child’s creations on social media and see what your friends think. You could even enter their pictures in a drawing competition.

16. Transform cartoon characters into festive characters

We’re sure your little ones will have a favorite character on TV they are obsessed with. They probably have all the toys and clothing with that character on. So, here’s an idea, turn those characters into festive ones.

Ask them to draw their favorite cartoon characters and add some festivity to the picture. Perhaps they’ll draw a Santa hat on the character’s head or the character decorating the Christmas tree. There are so many ideas they can create, so you’ll need plenty of paper and pencils. We’d love to see what your little ones create.

17. Draw your own Christmas Island

We love the sound of this next Christmas drawing idea. It would be magical to live on a Christmas Island, wouldn’t it? Imagine waking up each day feeling like its Christmas. It would be a wonderful experience. Get some big sheets of paper and pencils and come up with some ideas of what makes the perfect Christmas Island. Perhaps you can include a ski slope, unlimited hot chocolates or a giant inflatable Santa. You could even give your Christmas Island a name.

18. Christmas in the community

It’s so magical seeing the community lit up at Christmas time. All the twinkling lights and colorful decorations are amazing to see. Take a family walk together and explore your community lit up for Christmas at night.

When you arrive back home, ask your little one to draw a picture of what they saw on the walk. It’s a great way of turning a family event into something creative. Let’s see if they remembered all the decorations and lights they saw.

19. Draw Santa on his sleigh

We’re onto our final Christmas drawing ideas to do on a rainy day. But we’ve saved the most magical drawing idea until last. The thought of Santa flying through the sky on Christmas with his reindeers is truly sensational, isn’t it?

Ask your little to draw what they think the scene looks like when Santa is delivering presents on Christmas Eve. They could even draw Santa landing on the roof, coming down the chimney to place the presents under the tree.

Your little ones could draw Santa and reindeers enjoying some snacks and refreshments after all their hard work.

Whatever your little ones draw, you could store them in a folder or create a gallery to display their artwork.
